Artist Statement: As a jeweler and artist I am concerned with the qualities of my material and by what means they can be skewed. By questioning the conventions of the medium, I can make an object that is not bound by the viewer’s preconceived notions of material hierarchy. My work aims to exist as a graphic statement greater than its material components.
Bryan Parnham has been drawing all his life. One of his fondest memories is of his mother distracting him at the doctor’s office by doodling with him on the pull-down-sanitary-paper. He attended Virginia Commonwealth University where he studied as a metalsmith. He was selected for the Core Fellowship at the Penland School of Craft where he pursued a marriage of the two things that excite him; drawing and metalsmithing.
